First Japan-Qatar Security Dialogue

1. On June 19, the First Japan-Qatar Security Dialogue was held in Tokyo.

2. From the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Mr. Tsukasa Uemura, Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau and the Ministry of Defense headed by Mr. Jota Yamamoto, Director-General for International Affairs, Defense Policy Bureau attended the dialogue. From the Qatari side, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdullah AL-RUMAIHI, Minister’s Assistant for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Saud Abdulrahman AL-THANI, Brigadier, Pilot, Ministry of Defense of Qatar and other officials attended.

3. The Japan-Qatar Security Dialogue was announced to set up on the occasion of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to the State of Qatar last August. This is the first meeting of the dialogue and both sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues including situations of the East Asia region and the Gulf and Middle East region, and security policies of both countries.
