Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the declaration of martial law in Thailand

1. The Government of Japan is monitoring developments with great concern in the wake of the declaration of martial law in the Kingdom of Thailand on May 20.
2. The Government of Japan once again urges all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from violence, and express its strong hope that they resolve their differences peacefully and expeditiously through democratic process and sincere dialogue.
3. The Government of Japan will continue to take necessary measures, including approaching the Thai side, in order to ensure the safety of Japanese people and smooth operation of Japanese companies.
