Messages of Condolences from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida for the Passenger Vessel Sinking Accident off the Coast of Jindo Island, Republic of Korea

  1. 1. On April 16 an accident involving the sinking of a passenger vessel occurred off the coast of Jindo Island, Republic of Korea, resulting in a large number of fatalities and missing persons.

    2. On April 17 Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Fumio Kishida sent messages respectively to ROK President Ms. Park Geun-hye and ROK Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Yun Byung-se, expressing their condolences and sympathy for the large number of lives lost and many people who are missing as a result of this accident. They also conveyed that the Government of Japan is prepared to provide necessary assistance.
