Dispatch of Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Team in Response to the Disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines Plane
1. On Tuesday, March 11, based on the request made by the Government of Malaysia, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch Japan Disaster Relief Team for rescue operations in response to the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines plane (MH370) since March 8.
2. Following this decision, an advance team consisted of eight officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Japan Coast Guard and Japan International Cooperation Agency, will depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 11 at around midnight.
3. Although specific scope of work and the dispatch period of the main unit of JDR are yet to be decided, it is expected that air assets provided by Japan Self-Defense Forces and Japan Coast Guard will be deployed to assist in rescue operations for the missing aircraft.
