Emergency Assistance to the Plurinational State of Bolivia in Response to the Heavy Rains Disaster

1. On Wednesday, February 19, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 19 million yen (tents) for the Plurinational State of Bolivia, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of Bolivia following serious damage caused by heavy rain.

2. In Bolivia, heavy rain has caused the disaster since October, last year. On January 27, the Government of Bolivia issued the Declaration of a State of Emergency nationwide. According to the Government of Bolivia, as of February 17, 56 people were dead and approximately 59,691 families were displaced.

3. In response to the request from the Government of Bolivia, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between Japan and Bolivia.
