The 2nd Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue
1. On 30 (Wednesday) and 31 (Thursday) October, the second Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue will be held at Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
2. Mr Koichi Hasegawa, Deputy Director-General, European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Professor Robin Grimes, FCO Chief Scientific Advisor will co-chair the dialogue. A range of relevant representatives of Japanese and British authorities will participate.
3. The Dialogue will discuss a range of subjects relevant to nuclear policy including nuclear safety and regulation, decommissioning, decontamination and nuclear research and development.
Background to the Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue
JAPAN-UK joint statement was issued on 10 April 2012. The ‘Japan-UK Framework on Civil Nuclear Energy Cooperation,’ which was annexed to the joint statement, states that Japan and the UK decided to launch an annual dialogue at senior level to strengthen bilateral cooperation across the full range of civil nuclear activities. The first Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held on 4th and 5th October 2012 in Japan.
