Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Niger in Response to the Floods Disaster

1. On September 20, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 16 million yen (blankets, portable jerry cans, etc) to the Republic of Niger, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request following serious damage from the floods.

2. In Niger, heavy rain which falls continually since July caused the floods in all over the country. The Republic has continuously been damaged, and the Government of Niger reported, as of September 12, 91,813 people were suffered, 28 people were dead, and 9,940 houses were destroyed.

3. In response to the request from the Government of Niger, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between Japan and Niger.
