The 7th Japan-UK Bilateral Consultations on Cyber Issues

  1. On Tuesday, February 7, the 7th Japan-UK Bilateral Consultations on Cyber Issues were held in Tokyo, Japan.
  2. This whole of government meeting was co-chaired by Mr. ISHIZUKI Hideo, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan, and Mr. William Middleton, Director Cyber, National Security Directorate, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), with the participation from, on the Japanese side, MOFA, National Security Secretariat (NSS), National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC), National Police Agency (NPA), Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Defense (MOD), and on the UK side, FCDO, Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
  3. At this dialogue, the two sides exchanged views on broad topics, such as on each country’s cybersecurity strategy and policy, cooperation in the international fora including the UN, and capacity building for cybersecurity. Both sides also discussed about related policies including on 5G and Open RAN technologies.
  4. Both sides confirmed that the two countries will continue to hold the Japan-UK Bilateral Consultations on Cyber Issues.
