Release of the Third Report of the Investigation and Identification Team on the Perpetrators of the Use of Chemical Weapons in Syria

  1. Japan welcomes the third report of the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on the perpetrators of the use of chemical weapons in Syria, which was released on January 27.
  2. From the standpoint that the use of chemical weapons is impermissible under any circumstances, and that its perpetrators should be identified and held accountable, Japan supports the work of the OPCW including the IIT.
  3. In order to prevent the recurrence of the use of chemical weapons in Syria and other countries, Japan continues to fully support efforts of the OPCW, and to work closely with the international community toward the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
