Inscription of “Furyu-odori: Ritual Dances Imbued with People’s Hopes and Prayers” on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

- I am delighted that “Furyu-odori: Ritual Dances Imbued with People’s Hopes and Prayers” was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 30, 2022, at the 17th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Rabat, Morocco. I congratulate and express my sincere respect to all those who have dedicated themselves to preserving and promoting “Furyu-odori”.
- The inscribed element consists of 41 “Furyu-odori” dances throughout Japan. I hope that the inscription of this element on UNESCO’s list will lead to renewed public awareness on appeals of various regions in Japan. I will continue to make utmost efforts to promote such appeals to the world.
