The 8th Japan-U.S. Non-Proliferation Dialogue

The 8th Japan-U.S. Non-Proliferation Dialogue was held on October 26 and 27 in Tokyo. Mr. Shigeki Ito, Deputy Director-General of Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Katsuro Igari, Director-General of Trade Control Department, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, represented Japan, and Mr. Gonzalo Suarez, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, U.S. Department of State, represented the United States.
- This dialogue is a framework for discussion between Japan and the United States on the issue of proliferation including those related to weapons of mass destruction, and this was the first time in three years, since 2019, that the dialog was held.
- The two countries exchanged their views on a wide range of non-proliferation issues, including international export control regimes, regional proliferation challenges and Intangible Technology Transfer. Both sides shared the view to continue this dialogue.
