Meeting between Foreign Minister Hayashi and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Special Envoy for Japan, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Signing Ceremony of Joint Declaration on the Implementation of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI)

 On September 28, commencing at 4:50 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Special Envoy to Japan, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, during his visit to Japan to attend the State Funeral of former Prime Minister Abe. The overview is as follows.
 Prior to the meeting, the two Minister signed a Joint Declaration on the implementation of the Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) Open a New Window between Japan and the UAE.

  1. At the outset, Minister Hayashi expressed his gratitude for the attendance of Minister Jaber at the State Funeral of former Prime Minister Abe, and stated that he would like to continue cooperating with Minister Jaber to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Japan and the UAE, carrying on the legacy of former Prime Minister Abe who attached great importance to the relationship with the UAE as well as taking advantage of the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE.
  2. In response, Minister Jaber expressed his heartfelt condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Abe, and stated that former Prime Minister Abe was a great leader who served Japan, its people, and the world and he was special to the leadership, the government, the people of the UAE and the world.
  3. The two Ministers welcomed the agreement in principle on the Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology between the Governments of Japan and the UAE and the introduction of visa waiver measures, and concurred to cooperate more closely to elevate the strategic partnership between Japan and the UAE to a new stage, looking towards the next 50 years, in light of the Joint Declaration on the implementation of the CSPI.
  4. The two Ministers also exchanged views on the cooperation in the international arena, including the situation in Ukraine, the stabilization of the international oil market and COP28, and concurred to continue close coordination on these issues.
