Online visit to the destruction facilities of Abandand Chemical Weapons(ACW) by the OPCW Executive Council Delegation

　On September 15, the Government of Japan co-hosted with the Government of the People’s Republic of China the online visit to destruction facilities of Abandoned Chemical Weapons(ACW) by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons(OPCW) Executive Council Delegation.

  1. From the Japanese side, Mr. KAIFU Atsushi, Director General of Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from the Chinese side, Mr. Fu Cong, Director General, Department of Arms Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the visit. In addition, delegates from 26 countries attended the visit to observe the ACW destruction facilities in Haerbaling, China, and exchanged views on this project.
  2. The Japanese side explained Japan’s efforts to date on the ACW projects, and emphasized that Japan would continue to sincerely fulfil its obligation under the Chemical Weapons Convention to realize a world without chemical weapons.
  3. Japan, as a whole-of-government effort, will continue to cooperate with China and the OPCW to compleate the ACW destruction projects as soon as possible.
