On July 14, commencing at 2:30 p.m., Ms. SUZUKI Takako, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Mohamed ELLOUMI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to Japan for approximately 40 minutes. The overview is as follows.

  1. State Minister Suzuki recalled the visit of H. E. Mr. Othman Jerandi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia to Japan in early June and expressed her gratitude for Tunisian side’s preparation towards success of TICAD 8 (the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development) to be held this year. Also, she stated that Japan would like TICAD 8 to be an opportunity to strongly support African-led development and set out a pathway for African development. In response, Ambassador Elloumi explained the preparation work being done as host country of the TICAD 8. Both sides reaffirmed their continuous close coordination towards the successful holding of TICAD 8.
  2. Moreover, the two sides exchanged views on the importance of the business promotion between Japan and Tunisia, in particular, the private sector investment, as well as transparency and fairness of development finance. They also exchanged views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, food security and the cooperation in the international arena.
