Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Odawara Kiyoshi and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Special Envoy to Japan, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company

On June 6, commencing at 6:30 p.m., State Minister for Foreign Affairs ODAWARA Kiyoshi held a meeting over dinner with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Special Envoy to Japan, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), who is visiting Japan, at Iikura Guest House for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister Odawara expressed his condolences on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and expressed his intention to work closely with H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the newly inaugurated President, to further develop the friendly relations between Japan and the UAE, building on the foundation established together with the late President Khalifa. In response, Minister Jaber expressed his gratitude and stated his intention to further strengthen relations with Japan.
- State Minister Odawara stated his intention to continue to further strengthen Japan-UAE cooperation in a range of fields, under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI), taking the opportunity of the 50thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE this year. In response Minister Jaber stated that the strategic partnership between Japan and the UAE is robust, and that he intends to deepen the coordination. The two ministers exchanged views on cooperation on climate change and the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) as well as cooperation in the international arena.
- The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East including Yemen, and confirmed to continue their close cooperation.
