Condolences on the Passing of Dr. Bernard Bigot, Director-General of the ITER Organization,
and Dr. TADA Eisuke, Deputy Director-General, takes over as Interim Director-General

  1. The ITER Organization announced that the Director-General Bernard Bigot passed away on 14 May 2022.
  2. The Government of Japan expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of DG Bigot and sincere respects for the achievements of DG Bigot and his outstanding contribution to the ITER project.
  3. In response to this, the ITER Council decided that Deputy Director-General TADA takes over the lead of the ITER project as Interim Director-General until the long-term successor of DG Bigot assumes his/her office.
    The Government of Japan will continue to work closely with the ITER Organization for consistent progress in the ITER project.
