Result of the Presidential Election in the Federal Republic of Somalia

  1. Japan congratulates that the presidential election in the Federal Republic of Somalia was held peacefully on May 16th (May 15th in local time), and Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected as the new President.
  2. Japan hopes that Somalia will make further progress in consolidating peace in the country under the new president.
  3. In view of the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) which will be held this year, Japan will continue its support for peace and stability in Somalia in collaboration with the international community.
