The Situation in Burkina Faso
(Statement by Press Secretary ONO Hikariko)

- On January 24 (local time), members of Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces announced the detention of President Kaboré, the suspension of the constitution, the dissolution of the government and the national assembly, as well as the closure of the country’s land and air border.
- Japan is deeply concerned about this situation, and strongly condemns the actions taken by the members of Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces. Japan also calls on them to ensure the safety of President Kaboré, in line with the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), among others.
- Japan calls for the prompt restoration of constitutional order in Burkina Faso.
