Japan-Cambodia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On November 18, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H. E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Kingdom of Cambodia. The overview of the talks was as follows.

  1. At the outset, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn congratulated Foreign Minister Hayashi’s appointment. In response, Minister Hayashi stated that he would like to work with Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn to strengthen the strategic partnership with Cambodia based on the friendship which has been built between the two countries toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and “ASEAN Outlook for Indo-Pacific.”
  2. Both ministers discussed on strengthening the relationship between Japan and Cambodia and consent to work closely to further encourage the relationship toward the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries in 2023. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his appreciation to Japan’s assistance including the support to respond COVID-19.
  3. The Ministers also exchanged views on regional issues including Myammar and consent to cooperate for the success of the ASEAN Meetings of which Cambodia takes the chair in 2022.
