Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 14, commencing at 4:35 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- Minister Payne began by congratulating Minister MOTEGI on his reappointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister MOTEGI stated that he would continue working closely with her toward the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific".
- The two Ministers confirmed the close cooperation between Japan and Australia in order to maintain and strengthen the solidarity among allies and like-minded countries including the U.S. for the peace and stability of the region.
- The two Ministers also exchanged their views on the situation in Myanmar, and concurred that Japan and Australia would continue to work together.
