Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

 On October 14, commencing at 4:35 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. Minister Payne began by congratulating Minister MOTEGI on his reappointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister MOTEGI stated that he would continue working closely with her toward the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific".
  2. The two Ministers confirmed the close cooperation between Japan and Australia in order to maintain and strengthen the solidarity among allies and like-minded countries including the U.S. for the peace and stability of the region.
  3. The two Ministers also exchanged their views on the situation in Myanmar, and concurred that Japan and Australia would continue to work together.
