Telephone Talk between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and United States Trade Representative Tai

On March 23, commencing at 9:40 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Ambassador Katherine C. Tai, United States Trade Representative. The overview of the talk is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Motegi congratulated United States Trade Representative Tai on her inauguration. Both sides confirmed the importance of close coordination in the economic and trade areas, while further enhancing the Japan-U.S. economic relationship.
- Both sides shared the view that Japan and the United States attach importance to close cooperation on various challenges including rule-making regarding facilitation of trade, WTO reforms including in the issue of the dispute settlement system, as well as market-distorting measures by such countries as China. Also, they confirmed that Japan and the United States would work closely with a view to maintaining and establishing a global economic order.
- Furthermore, in the area of economic security, they affirmed that Japan and the United States would hold discussions so as to build resilient, diverse, and secure supply chains.
