The Situation in Libya(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

- Japan welcomes the approval by the House of Representatives of an interim Government of National Unity in Libya on March 10. Japan strongly hopes that the interim Government of National Unity will make necessary preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections, which are scheduled to take place on December 24, 2021, so that the elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner as a key step forward toward stabilizing Libya.
- Japan highly commends the efforts by the Libyan stakeholders which have led to the approval of the interim Government. Japan also urges parties concerned to refrain from any counterproductive attempt on this process. Japan will continue to cooperate with the international community with a view to realizing stability in Libya.
