Video message by State Minister for Foreign Affairs UTO at the High-level Replenishment Conference for the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund

On January 26, Mr. UTO Takahashi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered a video message at the virtual High-level Replenishment Conference for the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
- In the meeting, participants shared views on the way forward for financing in the area of peacebuilding and the importance of the role played by the PBF, in the face of the increasing needs for assistance in peacebuilding, compounded by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Countries also expressed support to the PBF as well as made financial commitments.
- In his video message, State Minister Uto touched on Japan's efforts in peacebuilding, and stated that sustaining peace requires the undertaking by the entire international community, and that the PBF is uniquely equipped to bridge the transition from conflict to peace.
- Moreover, State Minister Uto announced that Japan will seek to contribute to the PBF at a scale of 10 million dollars for the period of the Fund's 2020-2024 Strategy, from the standpoint of further contributing to sustaining peace.
