December 16, 2020
- On December 16, the Protocol Amending the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for Co-operation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy was signed in London between H. E. Mr. NAGAMINE Yasumasa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the UK, and The Rt Hon Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Minister of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
- This Protocol amends part of the current Agreement, which entered into force in 1998, in order to reflect in particular the replacement of safeguards arrangements in the UK following the UK's withdrawal from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community.
- This Protocol shall enter into force at the time and date to be agreed by the Contracting Parties through an exchange of diplomatic notes informing each other that their respective constitutional requirements necessary to give effect to this Protocol have been complied with (in case of Japan, the approval of the National Diet will be required).
