Telephone talk between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and President of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Bozkir

On November 26, commencing at 11:00 a.m. for approximately twenty minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Motegi expressed his congratulations on Mr. Bozkir's appointment as President of the UNGA, and emphasized that, as COVID-19 poses a challenge to human security, the international community needs to be united in solidarity to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). The two sides confirmed that they will cooperate to further vitalize discussions on human security at the United Nations.
- Minister Motegi stated that, in order to ensure the effectiveness of activities undertaken by the United Nations, it is essential for the Organization to advance its reform and to gain the solid confidence of the Member States. The two sides confirmed that they will work together to promote the reform of the United Nations including the reform of the Security Council, taking the opportunity of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations.
- The two sides exchanged views on addressing issues related to North Korea, whereby Minister Motegi sought understanding and cooperation towards the early resolution of the abductions issue and gained the support of Mr. Bozkir.
