State Minister Sato Attends the Business Side Event of TICAD Ministerial Meeting, “Showcasing Business Opportunities in Africa”

  1. On October 5, Mr. Masahisa Sato, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended "Showcasing Business Opportunities in Africa," Part 1 of the Business Side Event at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The purpose of the side event was showcasing to Japanese companies on investment opportunities and initiatives to improve the investment environment in Africa and trying to attract further investment in Africa by key public and private sector representatives of African countries.

In his remarks, Mr. Sato stated that the Japanese private sector has a decisive role to play in promoting Africa's social and economic growth, and the Government of Japan is exploring initiatives to support Africa's socio-economic development and mutual cooperation between Japan and Africa toward TICAD7 to be held in August next year.(English(PDF) / French(PDF))
  3. At this side event, four Japanese companies with successful business operations in Africa made presentations along with the African Union Commission (AUC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the heads of chambers of commerce from each region of Africa.
  4. A networking reception followed with the Japanese and African participants of the Business Side Event.
[Reference] This side event was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNDP and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and took place at the Tokyo Prince Hotel from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., October 5. More than 400 participants attended, mainly representing key public- and private-sector representatives working for promoting investment in Africa as well as Japanese business people.
