EU referendum in the UK (Statement by Foreign Minister Kishida)

1. On Thursday, June 23, the EU referendum was held in the UK, and it has become clear that votes in support of leaving the EU have achieved a majority.
2. It is believed that various discussions will be made between the UK and the EU. Japan will closely observe the impact of those developments on Japan and the international community, and will take appropriate measures from the perspective of national interests of Japan.
3. Japan and the UK share fundamental values and have strong and cooperative relations in various areas, including politics, economy, and security. The Government of Japan will continue to make efforts to maintain and strengthen the Japan-UK relations.
