The 25th United Nations Conference on Disarmament Issues

1 The 25th United Nations (UN) Conference on Disarmament Issues was held in Hiroshima City from August 26 to August 28.
2 The Conference was attended by senior government officials, UN officials, researchers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and members of the media from various nations, as well as members of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) Group of Eminent Persons (GEM), including Mr. William J. Perry, former United States Secretary of Defense, and Lord Desmond Browne, former United Kingdom Secretary of State for Defense. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN, contributed through a video message. Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered a message on behalf of Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Conference.
3 At the Conference, which was held in the milestone 70th year since the atomic bombings, Hiroshima's determination on nuclear disarmament were conveyed, and discussions took place on a variety of topics, including the stocktaking of the outcome of the 2015 Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Review Conference and its prospect, the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, the significance of Nuclear-Weapons-Free-Zones and Nuclear Disarmament/ Non-Proliferation in Asia, as well as the Civil Society and Education on Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation.
