Termination of Operations by the Escort Vessels of Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Team in response to the Crash of an Air Asia Plane

1. In the wake of the crash of an Air Asia plane (QZ8501), the Government of Japan dispatched Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Team composed of two escort vessels and three helicopters of Maritime Self-Defense Force and has conducted search and rescue operations in the area.

2. Today, under the consultation with the Government of Indonesia based on the recent development of search and rescue operations, no requests were made for further operations by the Japanese escort vessels. Based on this consultation, the Government of Japan decided to terminate the search and rescue operations conducted by the dispatched escort vessels. The government of Indonesia expressed its appreciation for the operations conducted by Japan so far.

3. The Government of Japan will continue to coordinate with the Government of Indonesia and consider its assistance in the future based on the development of search operations.
