Appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA, as next Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Director of the UN Office in Belgrade, United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK)

  1. On December 23 (December22 local time), H.E. Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations announced the appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA as the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Director of the UN Office in Belgrade, United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
  2. Ms. YAMASHITA joined the United Nations in 1990. She assumed prominent positions including Head of the Political Affairs Office in the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) and Director of the United Nations Information Center in Tokyo. Subsequently, she has been serving as Deputy Director for Asia-Pacific, Departments for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations since 2017.
  3. Stability and prosperity of Kosovo are important to the peace and development of the Western Balkan region as well as Europe. Japan continues to support UNMIK which operates to these ends.
