  1. The seventh Japan-Finland Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Cooperation in Science and Technology was held online on November 12, 2020, with H.E. Mr. NAKANE Takeshi, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan, and Mr. Petri Peltonen, Permanent Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment (MEAE) of the Republic of Finland, serving as co-chairs for the Japanese and Finnish sides respectively.
  2. Participants in the meeting included representatives from the Cabinet Office (CAO), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from the Japanese side; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, (MOFA), the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (MSAH) and the Technical Research Center of Finland (VTT) from the Finnish side and relevant institutions from both countries. Participants exchanged information and views on the current developments of science, technology and innovation policies and progress of specific research cooperation activities in various fields such as arctic research, ICT, health, AI, quantum technologies, and smart city, as well as on the frameworks for promoting research cooperation and research grants.
