The second Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue

  1. The second Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue was held on Monday, May 19 in Nay Pyi Daw.
  2. The dialogue was led respectively by Mr. Jun Shimmi, Deputy Director-General of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ambassador in charge of UN affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. U Thant Kyaw, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
  3. During the dialogue, both countries exchanged views on human rights situation such as release of prisoners of conscience, freedom of opinion and expression, democratic transition and establishing the rule of law including the elections in 2015, activities of National Human Rights Commission and peace negotiations in Myanmar as well as on Japanese assistance to Myanmar and cooperation in the field of human rights in the international arena including the UN resolution on the situation of human rights in Myanmar .
