Visit to Japan by Mr. Roberto Carvalho de Azevedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO)

    1. From May 20 to 22, Mr. Roberto Carvalho de Azevedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will make a working visit to Japan upon invitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
    2. During his stay in Japan, Director-General Azevedo will hold meetings with Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and other concerned ministers. Moreover, he will exchange opinions with concerned organizations and economic organizations in Japan.
    3. The multilateral trading system centered upon the WTO is the basis of global trade and a pillar of Japanese trade policies. In the exchange of opinions between senior officials from Japan and Director-General Azevedo, the issue of maintaining and strengthening the multilateral trading system is scheduled to be discussed.
