Meeting between Foreign Minister Hayashi and Deputy Prime Minister Quang

On May 25, commencing at 1:25 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Quang’s visit to Japan on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Viet Nam and the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, which are historic milestones for both Japan and Viet Nam. Minister Hayashi also expressed Japan would continue to work closely with Viet Nam, which is an important partner in realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” In response, Deputy Prime Minister Quang offered his congratulations on the success of the G7 Summit and expressed his intention make every effort to develop bilateral relations further based on the two countries’ Extensive Strategic Partnership.
- Minister Hayashi and Deputy Prime Minister Quang exchanged views on bilateral relations and coordination in international fora.
- Minister Hayashi, while touching upon the exchange of notes concerning three yen loan projects held during the Japan-Viet Nam Summit Meeting on 21st May, stated that Japan is ready to actively support Viet Nam’s further economic development through yen loans in areas where Japan’s technology and expertise can be utilized. Deputy Prime Minister Quang expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support to date for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development through economic cooperation. Minister Hayashi and Deputy Prime Minister Quang shared the view to work together to ensure the smooth implementation of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects.
- Minister Hayashi referred to the outcome of the G7 Hiroshima Summit, which was held while the international community is facing a historic turning point, and both sides confirmed that Japan and Viet Nam will continue to cooperate in dealing with the situations in the East and South China Seas, issues regarding North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and the situation in Myanmar.
