Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Vanuatu in Response to the Cyclone Disaster

- Today, March 15, upon the request of the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (portable jerry cans, water purifiers and generators) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Vanuatu in response to the damages caused by the Cyclone Judy and the Cyclone Kevin.
- The Cyclones Judy and Kevin, which developed on February 27 and March 2, respectively, left enormous damage in Vanuatu. According to the Government of Vanuatu, 150,000 people, approximately a half of the entire population in Vanuatu have been affected and a number of houses and roads were reportedly damaged. In response to this, on March 2, the Government of Vanuatu declared a Proclamation of a State of Disaster for the cyclone disaster which was extended to the entire country on March 5.
- In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Vanuatu, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Vanuatu to help people affected by the disaster.
