Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister AKIMOTO by Dr. Monique ELOIT, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health

On March 7, for approximately 20 minutes, from 9:40 a.m., Mr. AKIMOTO Masatoshi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Dr. Monique ELOIT, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Akimoto welcomed the visit and stated that the relationship between Japan and WOAH has become even closer with the conclusion of the Agreement regarding Privileges and Immunities of the Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific of the World Organisation for Animal Health and the signing of the Memorandum of Co-operation Concerning the Junior Professional Officers Programme. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Akimoto also expressed his hope that Japan would like to make use of this momentum and strengthen the relationship.
- In response, Director General Eloit expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to pay a courtesy call and stated that WOAH would like to further cooperate with Japan in addressing prevention of transboundary animal diseases such as avian influenza.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Akimoto also expressed his hope that Japanese staffs, including JPO, play an active roll at WOAH.
