Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs SUZUKI Takako by Ms. MIZUTORI Mami, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction

On June 1, commencing at 3:15 p.m., Ms. SUZUKI Takako, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. MIZUTORI Mami, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), who is visiting Japan, for approximately 15 minutes. The overview is as follows.
- State Minister Suzuki stated that disaster risk reduction is a key area for realizing human security and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and that Japan intends to continue to work together with UNDRR amid the increasing intensity and frequency of natural disasters, while expressing her respect for the efforts of UNDRR to promote the disaster resilience of the international community and for Special Representative Mizutori’s leadership.
- In response, Special Representative Mizutori expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for UNDRR’s efforts to date, as well as her hope that Japan will continue to exercise its leadership to promote the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in the international community.
