Japan-Indonesia Summit Telephone Talk

On March 8, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, for about 25 minutes from 3:00 p.m. The overview of the talk is as follows:
- Prime Minister Kishida stated that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is a unilateral change of the status quo by force, which shakes the international order and severely condemned Russia. He also stated that as Japan is the only country that has suffered from atomic bombings, and as a prime minister from Hiroshima, neither the threat nor the use of nuclear weapons should be tolerated. In response, President Joko expressed that Indonesia attaches importance to the principles of the UN Charter, especially the principle of territorial integrity. The two leaders confirmed that they would continue to closely work together.
- The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar. Prime Minister Kishida reaffirmed that Japan will continue to fully support the initiatives of ASEAN for the implementation of the “Five-Point Consensus”, and the two leaders concurred to continue working in close coordination.
- The two leaders also concurred to continue to work closely together with a view to further advancing the cooperation between Japan and Indonesia.
