On February 8, the Global Launch of the Special Report on Human Security was held online. Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended via video message.

  1. At this event hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Achim Steiner, the UNDP Administrator and Minister Hayashi, followed by a presentation of the report by Mr. Pedro Conceição, the Director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office. Lively debates by experts also took place in the panel discussion.
  2. In his video message, Minister Hayashi stated that COVID-19, which is still raging around the world two years since its outbreak, is truly a human security crisis that threatens the survival, livelihood, and dignity of people. He highlighted the importance of deepening discussions on human security with a view to addressing threats in the new era. Furthermore, based on the recommendations of the Special Report, Minister Hayashi announced that Japan will further disseminate the concept of human security and promote its implementation, while contributing to discussions on human security in the international arena, including at the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) to be held later this year.
