The Attacks against the United Arab Emirates (Statement by Press Secretary ONO Hikariko)

- On Monday, January 17 (local time), the Government of the United Arab Emirates announced that explosions broke out near a crude oil facility in Abu Dhabi, which led to a fire, and three civilians were killed and six civilians injured, as well as a minor fire broke out in the construction area of Abu Dhabi International Airport. The Government of Japan expresses heartfelt condolences to those who lost lives in the incidents and their bereaved families. The Government of Japan also prays for the swift recovery of those who were injured.
- The Government of Japan strongly condemns the attacks claimed by the Yemen-based Houthis against the United Arab Emirates and calls for an immediate halt to such attacks.
- Peace and stability in the Middle East is an important matter for the international community. The Government of Japan remains committed to continuously making serious efforts, in cooperation with countries concerned, so as to maintain and reinforce peace and stability in the Middle East.
