Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and Hon. Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment of Australia

On July 15, commencing at 4:20 p.m. for 25 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The two ministers confirmed that Japan and Australia are “Special Strategic Partners” that share fundamental values and strategic interests, and work together to promote a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” The two ministers concurred that the two countries will cooperate towards strengthening the rules-based international order while working with like-minded countries.
- In addition, the two ministers concurred to work on the maintenance/enhancement of multilateral free trade systems such as the TPP11 and the WTO, as well as strengthening bilateral economic relations between Japan and Australia such as cooperation towards decarbonisation, and also concurred to promote cooperation between Japan and Australia in a wide range of areas, including cooperation at the OECD and promotion of digital trade.
