Casualties in protests in Myanmar
(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

  1. The Government of Japan strongly condemns the situation in Myanmar where the shootings of protestors by the Myanmar security apparatus have caused multiple casualties among civilians. I would like to offer my condolences to the bereaved and express my heartfelt sympathies to the injured.
  2. Using force with guns against peaceful protests can never be tolerated. The Government of Japan strongly urges the Myanmar security apparatus to immediately stop resorting to violence against civilians.
  3. The Government of Japan once again strongly urges the Myanmar military to release those who are detained including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and to swiftly restore Myanmar’s democratic political system.
