State Minister WASHIO’s Working Lunch with Ambassadors to Japan

On December 14, Mr. WASHIO Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a working lunch at Iikura Guest House with Ambassadors and representatives residing in Japan. The invited guests are H.E. Mr. Rachad BOUHLAL, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to Japan, H.E. Mr. Frank OKYERE, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to Japan, H.E. Mr. Hasan Mohammad Saleh ZAMAN, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to Japan, H.E. Mr. SHAHABUDDIN Ahmed, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Japan, and Mrs. Emel DERINÖZ TEKİN, Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Turkey to Japan. From Japanese side, Mr. YOSHIDA Yasuhiko, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others attended.
- At the beginning, State Minister WASHIO welcomed the ambassadors at Iikura Guest House under the current COVID-19 pandemic.
- State Minister WASHIO highlighted the importance of global health in Japan’s foreign policy in response to the COVID-19 and reiterated Japan’s commitment to work with countries represented at lunch. In response, the ambassadors expressed their appreciations for Japan’s cooperation including in the area of global health and expectation to further strengthen bilateral relations with Japan.
- State Minister WASHIO and the ambassadors also discussed policy priorities under the Suga administration including 1) striking balance between response measures to COVID-19 and economic growth, 2) holding the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo, 3) promoting Japanese food exports and 4) hosting Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
