（Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki）
August 14, 2020
- The United States, the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced a joint statement on the agreement to normalize relations between the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
- The suspension of the “application of sovereignty” over the West Bank by the State of Israel as a result of this agreement is a positive development, and Japan welcomes it as a step toward easing tensions and stabilizing the region.
- Japan also appreciates US’s mediation efforts, including those led by President Trump.
- Japan believes that Middle East peace issue should be resolved only through negotiations among parties concerned, not through violence or any unilateral actions. Japan continues to support a “two-state solution” whereby Israel and a future independent Palestinian state live side by side in peace and security.
