Normalization of relations between the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates

  1. 　The United States, the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced a joint statement on the agreement to normalize relations between the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
  2. 　The suspension of the “application of sovereignty” over the West Bank by the State of Israel as a result of this agreement is a positive development, and Japan welcomes it as a step toward easing tensions and stabilizing the region.
  3. 　Japan also appreciates US’s mediation efforts, including those led by President Trump.
  4. 　Japan believes that Middle East peace issue should be resolved only through negotiations among parties concerned, not through violence or any unilateral actions. Japan continues to support a “two-state solution” whereby Israel and a future independent Palestinian state live side by side in peace and security.
