Disembarkation of U.S. citizens aboard “Diamond Princess” and their departure from Japan

- In response to the request from the Government of the United States of America, the Government of Japan is coordinating with the U.S. Government on disembarkation of U.S. citizens aboard the cruise ship “Diamond Princess” and their departure from Japan with U.S. chartered flights.
- The U.S. Government explained to the Government of Japan that it has decided to send chartered flights in order to fulfill its responsibility toward U.S. citizens as well as to mitigate the Government of Japan’s burden regarding medical response, and that it appreciates measures that have been taken by the Government of Japan. The Government of Japan believes that the measures taken by the U.S. Government will help mitigate the Government of Japan’s burden regarding medical response in the “Diamond Princess” and appreciates such measures.
- The Government of Japan will continue to closely coordinate with the U.S. Government.
