Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Maria” disaster in the Commonwealth of Dominica

- Today, September 22, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods to the Commonwealth of Dominica, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica following serious damage from Hurricane “Maria” in the country.
- The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to the Commonwealth of Dominica to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the disaster as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Commonwealth of Dominica is suffering from disaster caused by the passage of Hurricane “Maria” from September 18 to 19. According to the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, as of September 22, 24 people have been confirmed dead and approximately 56,890 are taking refuge from the hurricane disaster.
