MOFA’s Safety Measures for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Canada, Mexico, and USA
Foreign Press Secretary KITAMURA Toshihiro: I have one announcement on the FIFA World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 Canada, Mexico, and USA kicks off tomorrow local time.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has already launched a Liaison and Coordination Office headed by the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, in order to fully respond to all related matters, including safety measures, for all Japanese nationals visiting the host cities, including the delegation, supporters, and media.
In the host cities, working closely with the Japan Football Association (JFA), we will open temporary offices of the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston and the Embassy of Japan in Mexico, in Dallas in the USA, and Monterrey in Mexico, respectively, where the Japan National Team will play their group stage matches. This is to ensure that Japanese nationals stay and watch the matches safely.
In addition, we have created a dedicated page on the MOFA website, and will provide safety-related information throughout the event. We are also providing safety information in Japanese to those who have registered with “Tabi-Regi” (the overseas travel registration service). We particularly ask Japanese supporters visiting the host cities to register with Tabi-Regi.
That concludes my announcement.
