Opening Remarks

G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Mr. KITAMURA Toshihiro, Press Secretary: I have an announcement about the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at the outset.

The G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which was being held in Fiuggi, Italy, concluded on November 26, local time. Through the meeting, Japan reaffirmed with the G7 members the importance of the G7, with shared values and principles, continuing to work together closely and strengthening our cooperation, as the current international community faces deepening division and confrontation.

In addition, Japan also shared with the G7 members the view to collaborate closely with many countries all over the world and uphold the international order based on the rule of law.

Foreign Minister Iwaya has stated the outcomes of the meeting at the extraordinary press conference held on site, so I will refrain from repeating the details here. I will say that, at the meeting, the foreign ministers of the G7 members and invited countries thoroughly discussed the wide range of issues facing the international community. Moreover, I believe that the G7 members were able to affirm the G7’s strong unity and strengthen cooperation with partners in the international community. I am aware that Minister Iwaya also stated that he was able to build personal trust with the other foreign ministers.

As the diplomatic authority, we will continue to steadfastly address matters of diplomacy, while utilizing these recent discussions.
