Opening Remarks

Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly

Ms. KOBAYASHI Maki, Press Secretary: I have an announcement at the outset.

H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, is visiting Japan from February 11 to 15. President Francis will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Kishida and hold a meeting and dinner with Foreign Minister Kamikawa.

In September last year, Minister Kamikawa and President Francis met on the occasion of the UN General Assembly. Referring to the unprecedented challenges the international community faces, both sides concurred to work together so that the international community can unite and build a world based on the rule of law and multilateralism.

During President Francis’ visit to Japan, it is hoped that he and Minister Kamikawa will exchange views on various challenges, including UN Security Council reform, to realize a safe and secure world where “human dignity” is protected, and that they will confirm their coordination toward the Summit of the Future in September.

That is all from me.
