Opening Remarks

Visit to Central and South America and Los Angeles

Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida:From April 28 to May 5, I will visit Mexico, Peru, Panama and Los Angeles.
 
Central and South America is a growth center with abundant resources, and are enjoying remarkable economic growth. This region is our important partner that shares basic values such as democracy and the rule of law. I am scheduled to give a policy speech in which I will state the direction we will take to strengthen cooperation with Central and South America.

Los Angeles has the largest Japanese descents’ community with approximately 180,000 people. There are also many Japanese companies operating there. I will exchange opinions with the local people and work for the strengthening of relations.

Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic

Minister Kishida: On the visit by H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic to Japan - on May 7, we are scheduled to hold the third Japan-France Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue.

Japan-ROK relations

Inomoto, TBS: The row between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and ROK President Park Geun-hye seems to be continuing. In a general sense, do you see this is a desirable situation?
 
Minister Kishida: The relationship between Japan and the ROK is important bilateral relations and it is our recognition that ROK is an important neighboring country which shares fundamental values with Japan.I believe it is important to continue our efforts to communicate at the political level. I also believe we must exercise steady control so that individual issues do not impact our entire relationship. 

Responses to North Korea over the Golden Week holiday period

Yamagishi, Asahi Shimbun: With the Golden Week holiday period starting tomorrow, numerous ministers will be travelling abroad. What measures and preparations are taken with regard to North Korea?
 
Minister Kishida: On this point, the administration as a whole will expend all possible means.
